Always a Catch! · review
"Always a Catch" centers around our heroine Maria Annovazzi, or Mimi, as she is referred to most of the time. Her journey is to essentially find a husband. It is a simple premise, but it does well in it. In the first episode, it does possess the typical cancelled engagement you see in a lot of villainess-adjacent series. However, it takes it in a much more comedic route. This series plays more like a lighthearted comedy where Mimi's character really comes to shine, and she is very eccentric in the best ways. She truly is a scatterbrained tomboy archtype done well. The Japanese title's literal translation is"The Fish I Missed Was Big, But I Caught Another Fish Was Too Big." Obviously the localized title is better, but the main thing for this anime is that she catches a potential husband who is way beyond what she expected. Seeing how the ever-charming Mimi proceeds from landing a big catch makes for quite the fun show.
Production-wise, TROYCA is on it, and it is animated well and with good art direction. The animation really adds a lot of charm to Mimi. Sound direction is done well to enhance the comedic moments.
If you enjoy Shoujo or comedic romance, then "Always a Catch" is more than worth a try. It will draw comparisons to "May I Ask One Last Thing" since both Mimi and Scarlet excel in hand-to-hand combat. Personality-wise these two couldn't be more different, but each has their own charm to it.
