Review of [Oshi No Ko]
Have you ever seen an anime, that while not perfect grabs your attention and refuses to let go? That's not Oshi no Ko, at least not initially. I read the first Chapter around when it first came out and it did nothing for me, I doubt I'm alone in that view. But because of a friend's recommendation I watched it. I watched the movie-length first episode and then I was hooked. The series isn't perfect but what series is? It does, at points, feel a bit like "entertainment industry tourism" jumping from one aspect to another without much connection other than the protagonists motivations - Which admittedlydoes feel more like an inciting incident than a continuous push.
But then the rest of the series makes this a high recommendation for me, some characters are sure, fairly generic but when they're polished to the level they are it's not a negative.
One aspect I liked was when it touched out how the internet interacts with actors, when you know that certain aspects are taken from real life it can feel mildly preachy but it also flourishes the characters out by its usage.
Trying to be spoiler free may have made that a little confusing.
I think another thing that adds to my rating is that, the 7.5 episode, while easily skippable, because it's a recap, it's not just a recap. While only here and there, the short snippets of interviews with the main two VAs was a nice spin that made it feel at least a little more worthwhile.
Truthfully I don't feel it deserves a 10, but a 9 feels too low, it's not perfect but it's as close as I think it can be.
