Review of Attack on Titan: Final Season - The Final Chapters
I think that some people are talking from nostalgia and liked the last episodes because they spent 10 years on this anime. I didn't, just around half of it but I have to admit, many anime series would like to have such a decent ending as AoT had. It's not sugar-coated, it's not either a sad ending that will disgust you and throw your enjoyment of some long series out of the window. I am glad we could make it with some other people and finish this amazing journey. AoT had its ups and downs but worked really well as suspense anime and since season 3it was just better and better.
However, here we are, and there is a question of whether AoT deserved this ending. I have to admit that especially last episode lacked some inner integrity and logic. Suddenly there are some events that are explained in a few seconds/minutes and you are just expected to accept it. When I compare it with the rest of the anime, where almost every step was really really well calculated, this is a bit disappointing.
So while I enjoyed it and we reached our end, I personally think AoT deserved a better ending. When you are building up this world for 10 years and you end it this way, where some things don't even make sense anymore, it's just sad.
When I separate it:
1st episode - was really great, just a tiny bit from a masterpiece, the character development of some characters is at its peak and as AoT fan can't say a thing against it. Well, at least nothing big. Tons of action, and tons of good music (mostly from the previous season) and the story is moving forward at a nice speed. To be a masterpiece, the story could include more details, especially possibilities for Eldians and their fight.
2nd episode - is straight down to hell, if I should rate it just based on this episode, it would be around 6/10, maybe 7/10. The longer you are watching, the more nonsense you are catching. You can't get the shivers down your spine from the music, action and story anymore, it just doesn't hit the right spot anymore. Whether the ending on its own is good or bad is probably based on personal enjoyment. But I can't really say I am ready to defend that ending and its logic. Because it's probably impossible. I can't say it ended badly, I enjoyed it to some point but all I want to say is that this is not the ending AoT deserved. The quality is completely different. But it wasn't as bad as some manga readers hate it. I am actually happy we could see the consequences of Eren's actions on his psyche. And in the end, I think it's really better that the ending is the way it is, because I didn't have to be sad for it but also didn't have to be empty if it was something amazing.
To score this, I decided to jump more on a nostalgia wave and rather accept those better things from the anime. Also, I would say that 1st part was a much bigger deal and even the bad 2nd part couldn't kill it, it was a decent and dignified end and not a sugar-coated fan service with "a happy ending" as nothing would happened. On top of that, haters gonna hate it anyway and I am really convinced that the ending was much better than those haters want to admit.
