The Land of Miracles · review
As my very first donghua, The Land of Miracles was like opening a door to the wonderful world of Chinese CG animation—and honestly, it did NOT disappoint. The plot, the characters, and that beautiful CG? All done so well, done sooo well. The CG in The Land of Miracles was a whole experience. Normally I choose CG animations carefully but this animation... it felt like every frame was made with care, from the landscapes to the intricate fight scenes. The character designs? Chef’s kiss muah. Smooth movements, fluid battle choreography—nothing felt clunky or awkward or looked like sims😭 I was genuinely impressed. This wasn’t just eyecandy; it was a full-on buffet.
And talking about eye candy, the characters uuuugh, again chef's kiss. Not only do they look good, but THEY ALSO GROW. Lan Ge's arc? Perfection. Fa Hua's character also—it doesn't feel forced and it feels real. All characters get their moment to shine, you don't get those flat stereotypes🙄
And the boys got that aaaaalmost-but-not-quite PLATONIC romance??? It's just that every interaction has you wondering if this is the moment. Other than that though, there's definitely that mutual respect and trust. But the scenes be so teasy I can't help yelling at my screen for them to just admit their feelings already.
The pacing is pretty solid—nothing feels rushed or dragged out. It's a well-balanced wild ride. And for a donghua that’s introducing people to this genre, it does a great job of blending emotional moments with intense action without losing focus.
Welp, whether you’re in it for the visuals, the character development, or the "just-kiss-already" tension between Lan Ge and Fa Hua, there’s something here for everyone.
