Review of Devilman: Crybaby

Hello, I think Devilman crybaby is one of most controversal anime. You either kinda hate it and pretty much love it. I am rather the second one. I feel like this review will be pretty short because it's pretty hard to write about this anime. I mean, a lot happened. I feel like they took the original Devilmans story but projected real-life through it. All the horrors that people are causing themselves. The animation showed that all of us has a demon "spirit" inside us and it's up to us if we will become devilmans or full demons. The story really made me cry. I amalready really bitter about our society. I feel like the anime really showed the darkness of humanity. I feel that 2020 just kinda proved that.

The thing that drew me to the anime and what made me enjoy it the most was the art style. It showed all the ugliness without making it prettier. But it still was one of the most visually pleasing animes I have seen. I feel like If I could I would give it 12 out of 10. It was more than outstanding. I really watched it the second time for the artsy side of it.

Characters were the weak point of the animation. I feel like the characters weren't fully explored and we didn't really get to know them. It made Akira, Miki and some more characters look like Mary Sues. The only character we really got to know was Ryou and his ideas. But I feel that with this anime the focus was more on the story and art than on characters. So it's justifiable.

Overall I really enjoyed the anime. I felt that it was targeted to people like me, who are bittered by society. But also to people who just liked aesthetically like the variety of drawing styles. I really recommend it to people who like to study art and animation. Or overall to have a unique animation experiment. I really recommend and probably will watch it again myself.
