Review of The World is Still Beautiful
It's said the third time is a charm and sometimes it's true. I had 2 failed attempts to watch this anime but for some reasons I could not forget it and this week I actually did finish it. The struggle was immeasurable and my day was ruined after the last episode. First of all the cast of characters are unlikeable: Livius - sumptuously is the king of the world, king of the Sun who rules his empire, his people and other nations with an iron fist, a brilliant mind and compassion but as soon as you dive into the anime you notice a short tempered littleboy with a hunger for vengeance and chicky character trying desperately to show the world that he can do anything he put his mind to.
Nike - on the other hand it's suppose to be a princess form a poor country with an amazing power to control the weather to call upon rain on the Sun Kingdoom, but she is nothing like that. Story wise Nike is the rebel princess, the outcast, nothing like other princesses. She is suppose to have morals and be righteous like nobody else, yet wild and beautiful.
Second of all the story is poorly executed. The whole story is suppose to happen in 6 months but it feels like 2 weeks or so...
Most of the world building details and geopolitically elements are left aside so nobody will actually understand or ask anything, yet you are reminded the whole time that Livius is the king of the world. And one aspect that I could not find any answer to it is how come the Rain Nation, a poor country, has microphones and speakers in a medieval era? How did they got the technology or money to found something like this?
I did struggle to finish this anime but I don't hate it. I expected a little more from studio Pierrot, a little more budget into the animation and sound but I don't know the circumstances they were in 2014 to only animate Baby Stepts and this anime during the spring season.
All I can say it's the most 5 out of 10 anime ever.
