Review of Tokyo Revengers
This story would be SO much better if the main character wasn't a literal smooth-brained idiot. He has the mentality of a 5-year-old who has watched way too many mediocre shonen anime. All the other characters are amazing: Mikey, Draken, Chifuyu, Baji... they all have compelling personalities and stories, and take more part in the story than the actual main character, which, in my opinion, is a red flag. Using female characters as plot devices is old and bad writing too. Hina is the perfect girlfriend who keeps waiting forever for her mediocre boyfriend that not only is the least attentive person in the planet, healso tries to cheat on her MULTIPLE TIMES. In short: she doesn't exist. No woman hates herself that much. Or, if she did, it's NOT a good example and definitely not good writing.
All in all, I'm really disappointed with this story. I expected more than a glorification of the mafia and an annoying main character but, in the end, that's what stuck. It doesn't have a clear message either, nor a good background for many things (like the time travel stuff. Like, cmon, at least back it up a little somehow), so I haven't enjoyed it at all. Watching every new episode each Saturday felt like a chore. I respect people who liked it, but personally, I have only experienced a constant feeling of disappointment.
