Review of Haibane Renmei
While there were interesting themes covered through the story and the world-building is decent, there either wasn't enough time or the pacing didn't give me enough time to care about anyone besides Raka (MC). I came in expecting a haunting psychological horror, when really the first half is slice of life and the last half makes you cry and/or scared. The horror doesn't come from a big monster, but the internal feelings and expectations life forces you face. The animation wasn't anything special, with only a few scenes being visually interesting. The opening and ending songs are fineee. The dub was fineeee. This was justa fineee anime, nothing awful, and a few interesting bits. If you want a chill mid anime, this is it. If you want something that explores the themes in depth, super scary or despairingly sad, you'll feel disappointed with this anime.
