It's "The largest quarrel between parents and children in the world." It's the story about irony. In the first place, Lelouch just wanted to save his little sister, Nunnally, and protect her right to a healthy life. But his supernatural power called "Geass" mess the world up than he expected. I suppose the most guilty person is C.C. Because unless she gave Geass to Lelouch, probably he ended up saving Nunnally and restoring Japan without such a tragedy. We can see grand irony through watching this anime. Geass make this story more complex and characters struggled. In other words, we might say all characters are victim of Geass. Thebest episode in season 1 is "Episode 22 Bloody Euphi."
Code Geass is ironic story due to the power, Geass. Geass is the ability to compel someone to follow commands, then the more the command goes against the will, the greater the tragedy.
There're the worst tragedy in ep 22, because Lelouch ordered the worst command to Euphemia by accident.
I'm so sorry for her.

Lelouch is talented bad guy, while Euphemia and Shirley, Nunnally are ordinal good girls.
He loves Nunnally so deeply that I think he also likes Euphmia and Shirley.
It's unacceptable for me to mess Euphemia and Shirley up even to save Nunnally.

Is this true end that Lelouch hoped? Of course not. It's totally ironic story though.
