Review of Neon Genesis Evangelion
Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of the most captivating experiences I've had across mediums. What starts off first as a quirky show with great dynamics and cool fighting scenes suddenly shifts midway to become one of the darkest and most though provoking dramas ever told. Come the end of it, I had fallen in love with most of the characters and thought that the plot was incredibly gripping. Additionally, I thought that the artistic merit of the show was nowhere near as pretentious as the show had been made out to me in the past, and I still believe there is a lot more to the imageryand symbolism than faux-intelligence to appeal to Redditor neckbeards.
The only complaints I have with the show are to do with consistency, mostly in animation and pacing. One episode can have objectively amazing animation, and then have it followed by something far lazier. Likewise, the show can have an episode that is a slow burn that then chucks you back into a frenzy the next episode. I didn't have a specific preference for the pacing, I just wish it remained consistent.
Regardless of those complaints, this is one of the greatest works of art ever made. And then there's End of Evangelion...
