Review of Akira
So I just learned that this is based on a 1,800-page manga which makes a whole bunch of sense because this thing makes next to no sense. There's way too much going on so the narrative kinda crumbles under its own weight and it's near impossible to understand the overarching structure. It's really messy and far too short for it to fully develop that story in a coherent way. But. I do not care. Style over substance all the way babyyy. This shit is animated top to bottom like the animators were gonna die if they didn't make practically the grandest spectacle of animation youever did see. The worldbuilding is incredible, and every piece of this weird motorcycle-teddy-bear-violence-filled world fits together flawlessly regardless of how insane the ideas are. The set-pieces are all stellar and such a joy to take in, each and every one is so well choreographed and put together, my eyes felt like they were gonna explode. This is the definition of sensory overload and I dug every second. Awesome shit, gimme more of whatever the hell this future motorcycle world is.
