Review of Gintama
If there is a genius in making drama, action-adventure, romance, horror and any genre, of course, there is also a genius in making a master piece in comedy and that is the one and only “Hideaki Sorachi”. There’s a long review coming! For this is a magnificent series, believe me it would be worth it. ABOUT THE STORY First, the story is set in a mixture of old Japan and the future world where aliens exists. In a sense, this series is particularly very original. You would even think that it is so impossible. Imagine Japan in Edo Period and aliens lurk around. Since aliens already dominate theworld people are not that free at all and Samurai’s are even banned. If you think that with this kind of storyline it would be a heavy drama then you are horribly wrong. This is one hell of a hilarious series. I am not Japanese myself but the kind of humor, jokes, and parodies in this series are something that any kind of nationality can really understand. If you want to go international then that’s exactly what you have to do. No wonder Gintama is very popular in many different countries. You will literally laugh your hearts out and I am definitely not exaggerating it. There were moments when I am already in tears because I just can’t stop laughing. Even when I am not watching and would just remember it, I would burst out laughing. I just love it every time they would make parodies about famous animes of today like Naruto, Bleach, and most especially One Piece. I would always burst out laughing. The most amazing about this series is that it actually has a concrete main plot. It is not just a collection of comedy and parody in every episode. It has a steady storyline which makes it even more magnificent. How the “Mangaka” manages to create such a master piece is what makes him a genius!
ABOUT THE CHARACTERS
With one of the longest running series, the wide range of characters is well-explored. You will really get to know every character. What makes it even more original is the fact that all as in literally all the characters are hilarious in their own unique way which is very rare in any anime. In other series the main characters alone or the supporting characters alone are the source of comic relief and that’s almost all the time. Even Prince Hata who rarely seen is one hell of hilarious character. In fact, he’s one of my personal favorites. The members of the Shinsengumi have their own moments where you will laugh till your almost coughing. From the exhibitionist Kondo, to the mayonnaise maniac Hijiikata, to the ever so sadistic Okita, and to the weird Yamazaki who would always carry tennis racket because he loves copying the characters from Prince of Tennis. One of my favorites, Katsura who would always say that his name is Katsura and not Zura. In fact, almost every airtime of Katsura has that kind of lines. His always accompanied by the cute Elizabeth who would use sign board to talk. They would make jokes where the Mangaka of this series is actually the one inside Elizabeth.
ABOUT SHINPACHI, KAGURA AND GINTOKI
Of course, let’s not forget the main characters and the members of Yoruzuya Gin-chan. First Shinpachi who’s always bullied by almost all characters even his own sister makes fun of him. They would always show his character in the screen as a simple eyeglass. The not so graceful yet so damn strong young lady; Kagura. You would always see her eating in every episode and next to Gin-chan as the most hilarious character in the series. Finally the much laid back and easy-going Gintoki. As the main character it’s to be expected that his number one source of jokes and comedy. His “I do not care” attitude but later on would always help others is what makes him even more interesting character. His love for sweet foods and addiction to Shonen Jump despite being a samurai or his age is what makes him even funnier. Plus, his not just all about jokes because his one of the most responsible one in important times. Those are some of the reasons why his one of the most famous character in anime or manga form as of today.
About the ANIMATION
The animation is not one of the most amazing like your typical famous anime with breath-taking visual effect but it is still well-made for its type of genre and kind of storyline. The characters are gorgeous looking even the villains are beautifully made. Let’s not forget the seiyus who done an incredible job by creating such hilarious voices for the characters which I strongly believe made every lines of the characters so hilarious. Gintama made a magnificent job when they chose the seiyus for the characters. The voices for every character are so perfect for their personalities.
Hopefully, I’ve expressed enough how much I enjoyed this series. I am not exaggerating when I said that this is the most hilarious series in the history of anime and manga.
