Review of Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom

This is probably the most controversial anime I've seen lately. First of all, it's great, second of all it's awful. Actually this show has 3 different stories with nothing in common. First arc is beautiful seinen drama with some criminal background. The story of impossible and unrealized love of 2 kids, which are used as the tools in the power games played by adults. Yes, they are well trained killers, but it still leaves them vulnerable to emotional and psychological abuse from their "creator". We've been shown very convincing brainwashing mechanism and its result. Villain is not different from other participants of the political games and hasgood reasons for what he does, clear limitations and even some good features. The story somehow reminds early Besson movies (Nikita and Leon), but with more drama in it. I can easily give 10 out of 10 for this arc. Pacing, atmosphere, characters, story and ending are flawless. The intrigues are few, but pretty interesting. Everything in place. But this is not the end...
Second arc suddenly change the style all way around. Now we are dealing with shounen thriller. A lot of intrigues, villain is strong and easily manipulates his opponents, heroes are pure good and fighting their way through against all odds. Unrealistic plot twists, bad transitions from arc to arc, cliches ending of every story line etc. Dullness at its best. 5 out of 10.
Last arc is... school shounen action. It is incredibly stupid and unrealistic. Every convention was broken, our characters now have some kind of super powers (running through the rain of bullets), villain is pure evil without explanations for his actions(and total idiot), people are two dimensional, even the time itself seems to be volatile. 2 years for Drei look like 1 month for Zwei. The ending that should be touching seems to be off, since I lost the interest in main characters. I just waited for this thing to end... 4 out of 10 is compliment for this arc.
As the bottom line,- don't watch the anime beyond 1-st arc and u will have good time. I gave the show 8 because of this first arc. It is so damn good, that I think it was worth watching anyway.
