Review of Kokoro Connect
When I first went into Kokoro Connect, I thought that it's premise was very similar to Yamada-Kun to 7-nin no Majo with a bit more drama and seriousness. It had a bit of melodrama which isn't really my taste but it was still something that was enjoyable to watch. Story: 9/10 In the beginning, it was the usual switching bodies ordeal, which although is done many times is still entertaining for me to watch. I really liked their take on all the phenomenons and their realistic effects on people's lives. The comedy is also pretty funny to me with the few awkward situations that occur. They blended the seriousness and comedic parts of the show together perfectly while still being effective at doing both. The pacing was to my liking, with something important happening in every episode.
Art: 7/10
The art style of this show isn't really anything special, it looks like the run of the mill anime art style but it was still very clean. The drawings of the characters look good and fit their personalities very well. It was put together very nicely but it didn't really stand out to me.
Sound: 7/10
The soundtracks fit well with the story but not much of it was memorable although the EDs were pretty good. The song that changes the mood when Heartseed enters was also good. As for the voice acting, it was very well done especially Inaba's. (Really liked her voice acting for Mordred and Canaan) Emotions were very well portrayed but I still can't get over characters that are crying. I think that's just a me thing though because all I wonder about is how the voice actor's face looks like when they are acting out the scene.
Character: 10/10
The five characters were the highlight of this show with every one of them being flushed out with very real pasts and flaws. I really like their super tightly knit friendship and how they try to understand each other, defining how friendships are suppose to be. You can see them developing so well together, with everyone helping one another to solve their personal issues as well as becoming more and more dear to each other. Their ways of going about their lives and working together to solve each others problems were well thought out. The only character I had problems with was Heartseed which I didn't really see having much of a purpose in the story. I didn't really see any development in Heartseed either, which is why I didn't really like it, but the way they introduced it with the changing mood and atmosphere was notable. However, all the other characters were excellent.
Enjoyment: 8/10
At first, this anime wasn't really enjoyable because it was a bit melodramatic but if you can get used to that then this anime is pretty entertaining to watch. Some things were predictable but the character interactions is what kept me intrigued with this show.
Overall: 8/10
Would recommend to anyone who likes drama, romance and comedy.
