Review of Bakemonogatari

To put it bluntly, this anime is a harem that tries to position itself in the supernatural category. This could have been a great anime because of the overall idea but the execution seemed very lacking. The story is very long and drawn-out, and eventually bores the watcher with half-heartedly done characterization that forces itself into you. This animation style tried to be innovative, but all the episodes ended up turning into was frame-by-frame exposition that is illegible without pausing the video and lots of unnecessary dialogue that is easily forgotten. Many times during this anime have I seen dialogue run on for over halfan episode without having so much as a word that helps the plot move forward. However, despite the fact that this anime was poorly directed, the story eventually moved forward and gave itself some meaning, however drawn-out it might have been.

To sum it up, the story and idea behind it was better than average.

The Art was not terrible and was somewhere between mediocre and above-average.

The Sound was average compared to other anime. Nothing terrible but nothing exceptional, either.

The Characters were all poorly designed and were just melting pots of ideas put together without much thought.

The enjoyment kept me long enough to stay until the end of the anime, but I was tempted to drop this many times while watching.

Overall, this anime is a 5/10.
