Review of Neon Genesis Evangelion
Out of 100 Nobles watching… 100 were impressed! I did a recent rewatch of Neon Genesis Evangelion and I am a bit surprised by all the aspects of the show I did not appreciate when I watched it for the first time so long ago. When asked about their opinion on NGE my friends ex-girlfriend said “People only watch this show to see tits”, and while I think that may be one of the most ignorantly stupid things to possibly take away from the series I think it just goes to show just the wide breadth of interpretation Eva and anime in general has to offer theviewer.
It is no exaggeration to say that “every frame is a painting” when it comes to Evangelion. It really must be appreciated just what the show brought to the mainstream anime scene. Until Evangelion to my knowledge no show like Gundam or Legend of the Galactic Heroes went quite off the rails like Eva did. It looks gorgeous to this day and has characters that feels alive and like they’re real people with problems, dreams, goals.
I sincerely hope the next generation of anime fans can watch and appreciate Evangelion. Don’t watch the Netflix release, pirate it like God intended. Every aspect of the show is art. The “Fly Me to the Moon” ED changes and is a different cover almost every episode. It’s freaking insane the weird decisions that were made producing Eva and it’s all great. I believe everyone should watch NGE at least twice in their lives ideally once as a Teen and once as an adult. There’s a lot to take away from this single piece of media at different stages of one’s life. I could probably talk more intelligently about the series, but honestly that’s been done to death. If anyone really wants to know why they should or shouldn’t “like” Evangelion there’s a hundred YouTube videos already waiting for your viewing. Watch it yourself. Talk about it with friends. Fight over best girl. Yes, we know it’s Misato.
