Maria Watches Over Us: Printemps · review
Alright, second season done. Time for a little pit-stop review, before I move onto the OVA. Generally speaking, more or less everything I said in my S1 review still stands; I still love the slightly stuff tone, although it was a little less present here. The storylines are a little bigger, pushing the stakes up a little, or at least dragging some even bigger emotions out of them, and that's generally worked very well. Like the first season, it's the character writing that makes the story really work; Reiko Yoshida continues to do a fantastic job at dragging the emotions out of these relationships, resolvinga few in very satisfying ways and starting some new ones just as effectively. My personal highlight is the midpoint of the season, which is, in its own way, something of an ending, and it hits the notes perfectly.
The animation felt a little improved, but is still definitely the weak link here. Not surprised, but it's worth remarking on.
Anyway, time to get into the OVAs. Loving where this show's been so far, looking forward to seeing where it goes next.
