Review of Neon Genesis Evangelion
I think it's quite strange and marvelous at the same time watching something that feels as if it was made for you only. This show is probably one of the most controversial in the entire history of animation (and audiovisual) and even so, with its main theme (mecha genre) and the amazing execution, along with everything that hides behind every episode, leads it to occupy the first positions in the "best anime ever made" lists 26 years later. It begins like an action sci-fi anime with big robots and fights but with each episode it becomes really introspective, psychological and complex. The characters are very wellwritten and defined, and that is the key to Evangelion. You can understand and empathize with each of them, you can feel what they feel and you see a part of yourself in them. This, in addition to dealing with important and real issues such as depression, insecurities, fears, solitude and human nature, it's what makes this anime one big piece of art. It is overwhelming to find a work that manages to represent so well how painful it is to live with a mental illness. Neon Genesis Evangelion is simply phenomenal.
