Review of Black Butler

Black Butler is what I like to call a problematic favorite. I absolutely love this show. I watched it back when I was in middle school and was OBSESSED with it for a long time (I still kinda am but that's a different can of worms). I love historical fiction and this show was a great mix of humor and horror. The characters are all so fun and unique (The servants are the best and nothing will ever change my mind of that), the cast is incredible (I watched dub and you absolutely should too), and it's a great show overall. But like the transphobiaregarding Grell, the more uncomfortable sides of the fandom when it comes to ships (If you were on Tumblr in like 2014 the amount of CielxSebastian was frankly gross), and a lot of the more gruesome topics of the show can be a bit off putting to people. If you can acknowledge the more unsavory aspects and enjoy the content for what it is, I think it's an overall fantastic anime. And honestly the fact that most of the show doesn't even follow the manga and still manages to be good? Incredible.
