Review of Shiki
the only reason i initially picked up this anime was because it is by the same people who made black butler, which made me assume it would be great. sadly i was mistaken. the only thing that made it watch able to the end (aside from the hope that it will get better) was the art, which is stunning. This anime promised to provide gore, disease and death, which admittedly it did provide, albeit in an undignified and distasteful way. i personally found the way the makers purposely introduced unlikeable characters for the sole purpose of shamelessly killing them off later in a desperate bid tokeep the viewer watching when the plot starts to get dry a completely shameless and pathetic attempt to draw the reader in. i mean Sure we all love to see the character we don't like die in a horrible way, but what happens when most of the cast of a show is unlikeable and they all start dropping like flies? the show becomes boring. i honestly cannot think of a single character in this anime i actually liked. by half way through the series i had already accurately predicted the ending.
overall i did not enjoy this anime, as is obvious by my review. if i had to give someone a summary for this anime it would be. "twenty episodes of dialogue, then everybody dies." i think that it had alot of potential and it could have been amazing, but sadly instead this anime fell victim to cowardly writing and the vampire craze that has been hanging in the air like a rancid fart ever since twilight came out.
