Review of Shiki
Shiki is a very interesting horror anime. It starts off a little slow, and the animation style takes a little getting used to (especially some of the odd clothes characters wear), but as it goes along it just keeps getting better and better. I personally, think this show has the best ending of any show I've watched. Not to spoil anything, but while it's not very happy, it just describes reality and humans very well. Shiki tells the story of a small town surrounded by mountains which a group of vampires move to. People in town start dying so quickly that they think it is anepidemic from an unknown cause. The people who die are sometimes brought back as vampires (called Shiki in this show). The end also gets very, very gory so don't watch this show if you can't stand blood, but that's to be expected of a horror anime.
Shiki is an interesting twist on the vampire genre. There's no sparkling in this, and unlike a lot of horror shows, it actually shows parts of the story from the "antagonists'" point of view. It makes you feel for both the humans and shiki. One thing to know about the characters is that this show has A LOT of them. Most of them are unimportant, but maybe 20 are still very important, though these characters, especially one of the two protagonists who is the doctor in the town, Toshio Ozaki, are very good characters.
Shiki is my favorite horror anime for it's great psychological analysis of how humans react in extreme situations and how desperate you can get whether you are human or not when you want to surivive.
