Review of Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo
~~SPOILERS~~ To put it bluntly, 3.33 makes a lot of mistakes, from the erratic opening sequence to the underdeveloped Kaworu who is the focus of the second portion of the film. The most egregious offense however was the "movie" that they described when explaining the opening sequence, which by the way, doesn't happen until 25 minutes into the film. The "movie" I am talking about is the 14 year time skip that is discussed (i.e. how Asuka lost her eye, Wille's defraction from Nerv, and the Third Impact). This would have made for a much more interesting movie than what 3.33 was. The whole point of a timeskip is to skip over the boring stuff to get to the interesting points. But 3.33 skips over all the good stuff and cuts to... this, a rushed movie that sets the stage for what I am anticipating to be, a watered down fourth film (what else is there really left to cover?).
And what about the last 30 minutes of 3.33? (I didn't forget) It was a fantastic fight sequence that made the movie worth the watch. That's not to say the middle section of the film with Kaworu wasn't enjoyable, because it was, but the last 30 minutes of the film are really the reason to watch this movie, because again, the fight sequence at the end was exceptional. But unfortunately it was still too little too late to make up for the erratic opening, which sets the tone for the entire film.
