Review of Gintama

I'm writing this as the definitive Gintama review but I want to clarify some things for context 1. I have only seen the first season as of writing this 2. I skipped past all the filler episodes so whether not you watch the filler you might have a different experience then my own 3. Skip the first two episodes, the first two episodes are filler so trust me you'll have a better experience if you skip them My relationship with this series so far is possibly the strangest in terms of anime because I think it's both one of the greatest anime comedies that exists and also it canbe dull as hell depending on the episode

This is not a binge watcher show so if try watching Gintama all in one go you aren't going to enjoy it, take small sips when consuming it preferably on the side of another show because most of Gintama is just anime junk food but that doesn't make it completely worthless because there is really deep episodes and even some very creative ones also, possibly some of the most creative writing I've seen in all of anime

I understand why people pass on this show because the beginning is slow and at least in terms of the first season it's very episodic so there isn't a ongoing plot to dive deep into but I still recommended with all that in mind

I also want to talk about some of the characters because I do have some thoughts

(Gintoki)
If you're an older anime fan (20s to 30s) you will definitely enjoy Gintoki the MC of this series, me being in my 20s right now and having so much of anime being around teenagers definitely sets it apart from other shows especially Shounen

(Shinpachi & Kagura)
I'll throw them in together even if I have different things to say about both of them, Shinpachi and Kagura are decent side characters especially Kagura because she's definitely a highlight of the series, Shinpachi is also fine for being the straight man character the only issue with that is that it can definitely make him less enjoyable to watch over the other two

(Side Characters)
I'm going to throw all the Shinsengumi characters into all blob, I just didn't like single episode that focused on them you guys might have a different take when watching but they just never interested me, Katsura is also fine as a character not having must focus but still being good for gags

Gintama can get dull with very specific episodes because the series relies heavily on the comedy and comedies are a very suggestive media in terms of what people find funny and not funny, it's very Japanese focused but I'm pretty sure they give you the contexts through the subtitles (at least did for me when watching)

I give Gintama a 10/10 because when this show is good, it's really fucking good but even when it's dull it's still a 7/10, hope you enjoyed my review
