Although Hyouka started off very slowly, the story is quick to grow on you and it's endearing in its own way. Although there really isn't an overarching story line (the plot is more episodic), the animation and the sound track are exceptional and it has a very peaceful and artistic vibe to it which, in some ways, reminds one of a Ghibli film. The characters are relatable (as one would expect from the slice of life genre) and generally enjoyable, though they aren't particularly memorable in any way. Aside from some overly dramatized interactions, the dynamics explored between the characters is thoughtful and interesting. Withoutgiving anything away, the characters are well contrasted with one another and provide a lot of insight on the everyday complexities we face by interacting with others. Their relationships creates discussion about the interplay between personal philosophies and the challenges it presents as the characters begin to mature and grow into themselves.

Although I could have done without the constant "I'm curious!!," Hyouka was a surprisingly enjoyable series. The ending was not what I had expected but, in retrospect, I'm glad it turned out that way. Like I said, it might not be the most gripping series you will ever watch but it is a very innocent and relaxing show. It is the perfect series to wind down with at the end of a stressful day or to shut yourself in with on a rainy evening.
