“The Invisible Man & His Soon-To-Be Wife” is truly a diamond in the rough. This manga is a super heartwarming urban fantasy office romance. Both the main couple and the supporting characters are hilarious and delightful. The use of blue with the traditional black and white is a unique and intuitive clever storytelling tool, especially when dealing with an invisible character. The art style is fairly simple yet charming. The emotions that characters feel is ironically very visible. This is a very fluffy series primarily focusing on the main couple’s developing relationship. There are various detective cases that go on in the background, but I think it’s importantto go into the series knowing that won’t be the main point of the plot. There is an overarching plot per volume but also many vignettes, especially in the bonus chapters, which I personally think adds to the comedy and charm of the series.
As ending author’s notes describe, lots of research went into the disability representation in this series, and this makes me adore the series and characters even more. It’s very intriguing getting to see how different fantasy races are treated in this world where any and all manner of creatures can mingle, work, have fun, and fall in love.
If you want a series full of warmth and fuzziness to distract you from the outside world that can have you laughing, smiling and kicking your feet, this one is worth picking up!
