Don't read this at home alone in the dark. Aono-kun will haunt you. (But maybe you like that?...) This manga has phenomenal pacing, expert storytelling, and a lot of emotion. Each character is deep, and flawed, and incredibly human... even those who are monsters really make sense. Even minor characters feel memorable and distinct. This manga explores philosophy, psychology, spirituality, and relationships in just the right amounts. It's both heavy and its lighthearted. The story feels unique in its portrayal of what is "dirty." Other works can tend to over-dramatize or underplay upsetting social interactions, but the mangaka really found the perfect key. The art styleis simple but effective, though I'd understand if it's not everybody's taste.
I'm going through some dark times, but I found this universe reassuring. Read this manga if you need to feel something. Proceed with caution if that might overwhelm you.
I hope I can update this review in the future after reading it until the end.
