Review of The King's Avatar
I, eh, I didn't get it! First warning: it's Chinese! Quite different from Japanese; see if you're ok with that or not. It was a bit weird to get used to, and I prefer Japanese, but I could deal with it. Next, there is some weird cgi in there! The natural animation was beautiful. Finally, it's not about esports, really! I thought it was, and that really intrigued me; but it quickly left that aside to focus on the main character's exploits, and I lost interest. Still finished the series, but only 'cus I'm stubborn. So the protagonist gets kicked from an esports team maliciously (interesting!). A bit ofstruggle, and he needs a new job, so he finds an internet cafe (cool). He then proceeds to slack and just play video games, leveling up a new character, beating everyone up, and breaking all records. And that's kinda it!
For the rest of the show it's just our main character being really good at the game. There are flashy combat scenes, they look really nice, but I found little meaning in them. There are a lot of side-characters, but I don't think I can name a single one, they all feel superfluous. Also the main guy is kind-of a douche. :D
Good combat, good power fantasy, good animation, but that didn't cut it for me alas..
