Review of Darwin's Game

Story 6/10 A high school student Kaname Sudou gets an invite to a mobile game called Darwin's game of course this is no normal game with death in the game meaning death in real life. Each character in the game has access to a special ability or sigil however it takes time for Kaname to work out his sigil and he almost dies only surviving by sheer luck until he discovers that he can forge any weapon that he has come across. Kaname who is reluctant to kill steadily builds up a group of allies called a Clan and begins to battle any evil clan ofmurderers and criminals named Eight.

Let's face the story isn't the greatest but I think it worked for the most part although I wasn't a fan of the ending despite it setting up a likely second season.

Art 7/10

The art works for me with the sigils done well and all the characters drawn to least a good standard.

Sound 9/10

The sound of the show works fine with the voice acting and sounds effects fairly reasonable but what makes the sound great here is the two great tunes that make up the opening and closing themes I highly recommend checking out the opener CHAIN by ASKA and the closing theme Alive by Mashiro Ayano.

Character 7/10

The characters are reasonable I didn't like the main character Kaname at first as he comes across as a weak cry baby unwilling to do what needs to be done in a ruthless world but Kaname improves as the show goes on and by the end of the show he is likable enough. Shuka Karino is a skilled player of Darwin's Game who becomes enamored with Kaname I like her her but her voice and character could become grating for some.

Probably my favorite character is Rein Kashiwagi an extremely smart girl who acts as an information broker but is also a skilled fighter specializing in sniping she develops into a crucial part of Kaname's clan I liked the way her intellect added to the group and enjoyed most of the scenes she was involved in.

Overall a decent cast I would say.

Enjoyment 8/10

Really fun show not at the highest level but watching this on a weekly basis I always looked forward to the next episode I think the finish was rushed and we could have done with another couple of episodes in the final story line but overall this was a good fun show that was entertaining throughout.

A good seasonal anime well worth checking out.
