Review of Dan Da Dan

Short: you should really only watch this when season 2 comes out. The anime's biggest problem is the pacing. In one episode, nothing important to the plot may happen at all, and this is quite tedious. And at the end of the season it's get quite bad cause who in the world would structure their story in that way? Especially when it starts to get a little more interesting than the school/ghost ballerina arc. Speaking of which, everyone's favorite episode 7 is an example of terrible narrative construction, because repeating the same thing 3 times in a row in a way that it becomes less understandablebut still simple is a rather unique skill.

Also, the anime has a very strange worldbuilding. Meaning that ghosts and aliens are pretty much the same deal. And this is confusing, although perhaps not everyone needs a normal differentiation of one from the other - as long as the fight scenes go brrrrr.

But the animation, general artstyle, voice acting, and humor are pretty good most of the time. There's some cringe, but at least the main character (Momo) often feels like a lively and interesting girl and not just archetype. Same sadly can't be said about other characters, they are more one-dimensional (and for two of them that's fatal).

I don't recommend watching it right now, but I also don't recommend not watching it at all. It's worth waiting for the second season and then, with fast-forwards, you can get a okay funny story with a non-trivial concept and pretty okay execution. But it's not worth watching now, you'll probably be left with the impression that the season consists of 6 episodes, not 12, cause it's heavily undercooked and has many useless scenes and one entire episode.
