I'll admit, Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san is the type of show I'd usually avoid, but I decided to watch it just to spite the people that hate on this show because of what, she "abuses" him? God, it's so contradictory. The double standard that this community is just super cringe. Sure, when a girl abuses a guy, it's a disgusting wish fulfillment fantasy in which it's only purpose "is to fulfill the viewers’ sadomasochistic fantasies", and I quote, how Nagataro "continuously manipulates and gaslights Naoto" but when a guy dominates and manipulates girl(s), it's a "masterpiece of epic proportions." (it's Kanojo mo Kanojo). Same guy I'm quotingbtw. There's an extremely long list of harem shows in which the guy is in control, ie master servant relationship. Or of course, the girls just randomly fall in love with the guy for no good reason. Tonikaku Kawaii is just a wish fulfillment fantasy with the girl being a docile projection of an "ideal girlfriend. Cmon, Shield hero, Rent a girlfriend, Ishuzoku Reviewers, Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu. The list goes on and on. Tags with harem are at 409 on MAL, and we can all agree that 99% of harem shows are wish fulfillment, come on now. I'm sure these shows aren't fueling degenerates some fantasies, no way.
The show's humor is a bit low-brow, though. That much is true. Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san is the type of show that by nature, is fanservicey to a degree. No doubt about that. It's less than I thought in terms of panty/breast shots, honestly, but it's sexually themed, sure. Put in the fact that there is a bit of repetitiveness to the story, sure. But don't tell me that the reason you hate the show is because it's "red flag" show and it promotes abuse or some bullshit. It's such a tame show compared to the other shows out there with guys building out harems like nobody's business that I find this topic hilarious.
Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san made me laugh more than I expected, and the addition of a few more side characters does make the comedy and situations more varied. It obviously goes beyond the scope of just Nagatoro teasing our MC, and it buds into more of a closer relationship. It's pretty similar to Love is War, if I'm being honest. On one side of the spectrum, you got a couple that are extremely embarrassed to an extreme degree, to the point that they won't admit their affection for the other party no matter what. They do this dance of trying to make the other confess to each other for over a hundred chapters. It's unrealistic, it doesn't make sense, but it's funny. On the other side of the spectrum, you got this show, where you have a couple where the girl teases the guy in a variety of ways over the course of a hundred chapters. It's unrealistic, it doesn't make sense, but it's funny. So why do people have to hate on this show when people love "Love is War?" Dunno. Oh wait, it's because people can't imagine projecting themselves onto a loser like in Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san, but are completely fine with projecting themselves onto a guy who is a top student with good looks and grades, while also being student council president.
Don't put on your white suit of armor and complain how this gives a skewed perspective of what a healthy relationship is because there's a ton of anime out there that are wish fulfillment and are extremely convenient for the guy, in which it would also skew the perspective of what a healthy relationship is. That's all. Don't be a hypocrite, if you aren't complaining about the other thousand shows out that that perpetuate the view, don't go complaining about this one either. I don't, one way or the other.
