Review of Suzume

I liked this more than I expected to, and maybe because it also functioned as a road trip across Japan for most of the second part, and that it animated cities, motorways and all settings really well. Even though it has overly-sentimental moments (what you would expect from a Makoto Shinkai work) I think it’s a very good film, with an interesting fantasy premise. I don’t care about the criticism his films get. Yes of course the lovely animation is always the best part, but this one is really funny sometimes and has an interesting plot. The characters were… interesting.. if you know what I mean,and there was a really cute cat that was also so purposely annoying at the same time but I didn’t really care because I love cats :D

Anyway so what if Shinkai’s films have the tiniest bit of product placement, small cliches and “every one of his films being the same”? That’s hardly even true, it’s nitpicking, and if it is the case, they’re still really nice films.
