Review of Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day
This show does a wonderful job of representing what it's like to grow up. People change from their childhood versions of themselves. The story changes between the past and present slow revealing the plot twist. While it's predictable, it is not a common plot twist in anime. The story focuses on how each of these characters dealt with trauma and their stories intertwine. The downside is that is creates a truly beautiful story but then drops the ball at the end which why I cannot give its story a perfect score. I dislike how it lacks any closure and just leaves the viewer thinking "okay soit was all pointless."
The art is average. Clean artwork but nothing outstanding.
The soundtrack is well done and the main song is truly beautiful and perfect for the moment. The scene was so well done, you will recall the scene every time you hear the song.
Characters are not fully flushed out given the short length of the show and it had to be balanced with an actual progression in the story. I will say the characters are written well with their own oddities and conflict with each other. The beauty is when characters change. The girl you remembered then is now very different from the girl now. That's character development.
The show is very enjoyable and is setup with cliff hangers each episode, eager and in suspense for the next episode. It was definitely the top show when it aired for that reason.
Overall, I highly recommend watching it. It's just not perfect because of its ending.
