Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's Diary of the Creation of the World · review
As a fan of the older Doraemon series that I have watched over and over as a child, this movie is one of my favorite Doraemon movies. Rewatching for the umpteenth time—this time as an adult—only solidified those feelings because WOW, they really touch on some mature elements, like religion, class structures, diplomacy, and the imperfections of human civilization. The topic of religion is especially interesting in this movie because of how the characters inside the homework kit see "God" and other deities, compared to how Nobita and his friend group see "God", with viewers knowing that Nobita is the one doing most of the"Creation" in the homework kit. These kinds of complex juxtapositions are getting harder and harder to find in kids shows/movies, but they are certainly selling points for anyone wanting a touch of maturity in a kids show.
Fair warning, this is a 1995 film, so if you are used to the feel of currently airing anime, don't get too surprised if the pacing, humor, etc. isn't your cup of tea. A lot of the jokes are pretty ironic and dry, and also might need some understanding of the main characters' personalities and dynamics.
Overall, this movie is one of the best Doraemon movies that manages to include several educational moments for kids as well as many philosophical moments for parents too.
