Review of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

MINOR SPOILERS - I can't get the point across without them, sorry. TMOHS has got a main character whose willpower can *literally bend reality.* Haruhi it is, in the words of the rest of the cast, a God(dess) who can (and may, if they can't stop her from doing so) destroy the world as we know it. But - speak of knowing - she doesn't know she has such powers. So far, so good. But it gets better! Her desires bring an alien, someone with superpowers and a time traveller to her... and someone who, willing or not, listens to her ranting about the supernatural. All of them, are, ofcourse, interested in keeping her happy to prevent the very fabric of existance from unravelling at her whim.

This is told to Kyon (and you) through secrecy - Haruhi musn't find out she's God, after all, which has Kyon trapped in pocket dimensions, nearly being murdered, and realizing Haruhi has the hots for him.

We are at episode 7.
The world will end in moments because Haruhi grew bored of it, Giants will crush everything. The mains hint Kyon and fate (once again) fullfills Haruhi's desires when he kisses her.

It climaxes spectacularly.

And it stalls.

Even more spectacularly.
Again: you have a goddess, an alien life form, a time traveller, and a superhero. We never see any of them in action again. Everything becomes slice of life of high schoolers with a slight twist to keep Haruhi happy here and there. And it never picks up again.
Haruhi becomes even more spoilt than she was, mistreating the guys and girls to get her way all the time and throws a fit when she doesn't win.

The plot could have shot towards anything. Imagine the possibilities - endless! It shot... itself and died.
And in the 2nd season it sprayed it's own corpse with gas and set itself on fire.

The scores for story and characters were picked after watching the whole thing...
