Review of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (2009)
For the record, I watched the entire thing in chronological order. A combination of the episodes from 2006 and 2009. Besides that, the show was incredibly enjoyable, the characters were quite frankly hilarious in every detail and they each had a specific role to follow, not one person seemed flat or useless. Its good that the characters are so strong, because they compelled me to continue watching. The story alone isn't anything bad, but its somewhat random and crazy at times, so you may sigh in annoyance at times. Art and sound was good, characters looked nice and the voice acting was excellent. Flaws, flaws, wellthey were a few around here and there. Mostly plot holes in the story, however some of those plot holes are covered in the movie (The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya) and the others will probably be easily covered in an actual 2nd season. Besides that there are some minor gripes with a few episodes, like inconsistencies, random pop ups and comic relief at the worst times (even if they are still enjoyable). Biggest one is the fact that 8 episodes are repeated to show a point, the devs. and producers can be saluted for their dedication, but after a while it gets really stale. If you get to that point and you don't enjoy it, just skip ahead. You're not missing much besides minor differences and some tweaks in their dialogue and reactions.
Overall, its a good show and I recommend watching all of the episodes from 2006 and 2009 (in chrono. order) except for all the repeating episodes. I give this show a big 8.5 for its comic relief and colourful characters.
