Review of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (2009)
Season 2 of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. When this was released, I was more excited then I've ever been in anime history. The second season was good, really good in fact, but the only problem is that it wasn't as good as season 1. Why you ask? 2 words and a number... "The Endless 8". It was a normal day, much like this one... that's when I started the Endless 8. The reason I say endless is because the entire time I was thinking, will this chain ever break? Let me explain what "The Endless 8" actually is. It starts off as a normalepisode. Summer vacation, having fun, Haruhi wishes for something supernatural to happen, that's where it all begun. They go in an endless loop of the same episode, over and over and over. I don't know whether it was because the producers didn't have enough ideas, or they thought it would be funny to watch the children of the world suffer. Either way, I was angry, and I nearly jumped for joy once it was finally over. With that said, let's get on with this review.
Story-wise, it was like the first season. There's a new story every time, and I've already told you about the Endless 8, so just put that in with episodes like the first season only different, you got season 2's story.
Artwork was as good as season 1. All the characters look exactly the same, like no time has passed, so it looks like the animators are as good as ever.
Voices remained the same, which I was happy about because I love Haruhi's voice. It wouldn't be the same if they changed it, and I'm sure all of you would agree with me.
Characters were as awesome as ever. Personalities remain awesome (Haruhi is as direct as ever, Nagato is still quiet, Kyon is still grumpy all the time, etc.), so nothing much has changed with the characters, and it should remain that way for future seasons.
The only reason I didn't enjoy it as much was because of the endless 8. I was skipping through those episodes waiting for something different to happen. The remaining episodes I watched were all funny and good.
Overall a solid 9. If they had changed the endless 8 into the endless 3 or something, or made it a 2 part episode, that would've gotten me to give it a 10. Let's pray that there will be a season 3. Hope this review helped.
