Review of High School DxD
Wow, just wow. If you are not a fan of female nudity or so much sex references, then watch something else. However, if you don't watching a show that might have been made for perverts, then you may enjoy this anime. Story 6/10: To be fair this show does has a solid bases of a story. It has its moments when it takes itself serious and it does have good action pack moments. However, the anime knows that it isn't meant to be taken too serious and most of the time I just couldn't believe what was happen in it. However,it is a real simple story as it is, just with a lot of female nudity.
Art 8/10: The art style of the show is actually decent. It is set in a high school so everyone has to wear a similar uniform but they all do stand out. Also it is a bit bright at times even when it is supposed to be about demons and other underworld themes, but that just meant be part of the whole "not taking itself to serious" thing.
Sound 7/10: The sound is also another element that is done well. The background theme does tell what the main character, Issei, is feeling at most times. Also the characters' VO does a great job here; you're able to tell what the characters are portraying at the time they are speaking. The music and other sound doesn't really stand out that much but that might be because they reuse it for both the serious moments and the comedy bits in this show.
Character 7/10: There are a lot of characters here but the main one is Issei Hyoudou. This maybe a spoiler but it is revealed in like the first five minutes of the first episode so am just going to say it. Issei is one of the biggest perverts I have ever seen in any anime. If there was a top 10 list somewhere, I believe he would be at least be ranked 2 or 3. However, he does show growth throughout the show in a very good sense and he does have some good qualities to him. The other characters on the other hand they really stay the same. By the third episode you would get a pretty good idea about the other characters in the show and they don't even have as much growth as Issei, if any for that matter. Even the new characters that come in late in the first season you are able to paint a pretty good picture of them even with just a few lines of dialogue.
Enjoyment 7/10: As I said this show doesn't take itself too serious throughout the show but that is part of its charm. It just offers a good mild entertainment value with a simple story premise to follow. There were even a few moments where I was laughing as to how stupid it was being, again that was part of its charm.
Overall 7/10: If you are able to get past all of the female nudity and the sex reference you may enjoy watching this anime. It isn't the greatest anime but it most certainly isn't the worst thing put out.
