Review of Hunter x Hunter
Its been a long time, but i have finally decided to watch this, i went in with some expectations considering the high ranking on this site and i only heard positives whenever ive seen someone talk/write about it. So after watching the entire thing i can only say i am disappointed in this Series. Its really not the Masterpiece that people make it out to be, it just isnt, it´s kind of mediocre to be honest. The fights are probably the only thing that kind of stand out in this show, atleast some of them do, theres also very bad ones that seem like childs playwhile the commentator explains you all about their powers... Overall the animations for it are pretty good and its interesting to watch for the most part.
The Story is actually the worst part of this Anime, its full of plot holes, missed opportunities, things that are supposed to be important but just get dropped throughout the show and a lot of missing information in general.
Its almost like the Author was writing Chapter 1 and in the middle of it he came up with another idea, so he just tryed to finish it asap to start the new thing. meanwhile leaving alot of the stuff unfinished and unpolished, this happens a lot throughout the show, it just randomly stops and starts with the new thing for seemingly no reason, even though there is alot of unfinished buisness. The list of stuff that the series tells you is gonna happen, like goals the main characters set for themselves, certain fights that get teased just keeps on growing longer the more you watch, but it just never happens, its very disappointing. the rest of the story is full with fillers and random traing arcs that lasts to long making the show feel dragged out.
A lot of the characters are very 1 dimensional and only exist to fullfill one Idea the Author came up with, they pop out from nowhere and after fullfilling their thing, they just dissappear completely no matter how important that was to the story. the designs are often very bland and boring or in some cases really strange. their appearances never change throughout the show, no new clothes or anything else, no matter how much time passes, this could have been handled alot better. Theres very little backstory to characters in general, even for the main characters involved, and alot of unexplained things... random guy appears and his name is X, X can do this and he is evil because reasons unknown. There is really not much more to it than that.
My Overall enjoyment of the Show is 6/10 at best, the encounters with the different antagonists throughout the show all gets dropped halfway through or end in a very unsatisfactory and lame way, the training arcs are too long and get boring to watch quickly, the story is completely random and is all over the place leaving most of it unfinished and most of the questions unanswered. Its a very mediocre Anime that doesnt live up to the expectations one may have from seeing the rating and reviews, no masterpiece, not horrible, not very special either, just mediocre.
Would i recommend this Show? I have mixed feelings about it but No not really, 148 episodes is just to long for what it is.
