Review of Durarara!!
Durarara (DRRR), directed by Takahiro Omori, started off very strong, and as a result, I headed into it thinking it would be like the highly acclaimed Baccano. I thought it would have various advanced plot devices, stellar characters, and beautiful animation from Brains Base Studios. For the first 13 episodes, I was correct in my assumptions...but as I drew closer and closer to the show's conclusion, I realized just how wrong I was. Story/Characters: 6 It is a story with arcs, and the characters were great, and as said before, it started up strongly. About halfway through the show, however, the story became a lot more convoluted, charactersstarted acting OUT of character, plot devices were brought in and out of nowhere, and they relied heavily on "Deus Ex Machinas" (search it up on TV Tropes if you don't know what those are).
It was disheartening to see how the characters and story retrogressed from badassery to mediocrity.

Brains Base handled the show very well. They portrayed the modern city of Ikebukuro correctly, and the animation was amazing...for the most part.
Again, halfway through the show, the animation quality dropped significantly, as if they had expunged their funds in the former half of the show.
Still, I must give credit where credit is due, so Brains Base gets an 8/10 for thier animations.
Sound: 8
The OP's and ED's were very good J-Rock and J-Pop songs, and I listened to them on thier own on multiple occasions. The sound of Celty's motorcycle, I thought, was awesome too.
Enjoyment: 7
If the show had kept its level of quality consistent throughout, the enjoyment factor would be much higher. Instead of feeling for the plot, characters, and ambiance of Ikebukuro, I felt like I was being "trolled" by the writers.
Being trolled on is not a good feeling.
Overall: 7
The modern tale Durarara, by director Takahiro Omori went in as a lion, and out as a lamb. It's exceptionally strong first half and its lackluster second half forces me to give this anime a 7/10.
I hope Brains Base AND Omori decide to reboot the series, so they can correct thier flaws. They should have another go at this series...and maybe then it will get the perfect 10.
Until next time, take care everybody.
