Review of Paprika
Satoshi Kon is one of my favorite directors. So I am biased in my opinion of this film. People compare it to inception and yes maybe it inspired Nolan. But both of these films are very different from each other. While Inception is an action-filled almost heist-type film, Paprika can not be farther away from that. It is adapted from a book of the same name by Yasutaka Tsutsui. The medium of animation gives Kon freedom to show a lot of whacky stuff. The art style of this film is amazing and so is the animation. It's not over-stylized like a lot of anime is.It feels life-like or as grounded in reality as possible and I love this aspect of Kon's style. It adds to the violence and makes it feel more real.
What an amazing film. It is sad tho that he never got to make another one after this. RIP
