Review of Mobile Suit Gundam 00
Mobile Suit Gundam 00 served as my introduction to the massive set of universes that is Gundam. Gundam 00, at its core, is about mechs blasting each other to bits in space. If this idea holds no appeal for you, this is probably not the series for you. What really propelled me through this anime, however, was the setting. Gundam 00 takes place in a universe in the midst of a massive conflict. Geopolitics, war, and independent factions with questionable motives make things VERY interesting, and the suspense that these facets build up make the show unique and satisfying. There is no inherent "good" or "bad" inthis show when it comes to the various sides, because everything tends to be a grey area when it comes to morality. This makes the experience all the more thrilling.
In the end, the show does kind of devolve into mechs blasting each other to bits in space, but that is really what the show is building towards. While I secretly wished that the political intrigue aspect would ramp up and become even more significant in the end, it does kind of give way to pure action.
I would definitely recommend Gundam 00 as something a little deeper than your average action-filled anime/shonen. I really enjoyed it.
