Review of Detroit Metal City

FIRST REVIEW ALERT! DMC is different from anything else I have ever seen in the medium. It is one of those rare series that leave you yearning for more. Oh, and I probably should mention this; I hate death metal and the culture surrounding it. Story/ 8The premise itself is intriguing. Negishi deals with dilemmas caused by his double life as metal band frontman Krauser. This makes for a fairly interesting supervillain slice of life scenario, as Krauser has all the makings of a comic book villain and kind indieboy Negishi himself is the polar opposite of one.

The story unfortunately progresses in a very 'problem of the week' sort of way, which feels very monster of the wek-ish and leaves all of the key plotpoints (i.e. the love story) unresolved. That being said, the series is very entertaining and down right hilarious.

Art/ 8

The art is unique and purposefully shitty. It looks a lot like the Beavis and Butthead cartoons did back in my childhood and thus fits the mood of the show perfectly.

Sound/ 10

I would be a fool not to give the sound a perfect score. The voice acting is simply wonderful and so are the songs from Negishi's retarded indie tunes to DMC's rape the world-anthems.

Character/ 10

Every character has a distinct personality, and even most of the sidecharacters are pretty fleshed out. Negishi/Krauser and the band manager are real standouts, and so is rapper Kiva who makes a brief yet hilarious appearance.

Enjoyment/10

Haven't laughed this much in a while. Purely awesome, comedygold.

Overall/ 9

The story being cut short is what kept DMC from scoring a perfect 10 in my book. Everything else is wonderful and you should already be watching.
