I've been putting off writing this review for a while, and it's mostly because I just don't know what to write. I don't even really know what I watched. When it comes to Neon Genesis Evangelion, my mind goes blank with war flashbacks. I don't even know how to categorize this anime. Is it good? Yes, I think? Does it have problems? Oh, most definitely. Neon Genesis Evangelion is a journey, and if you have any semblance of what is going on through all 26 episodes, then congrats to you. You have done the impossible. This anime is a classic mecha, so of course I hadto pick it up and watch it. Are you even credible as an anime watcher if you haven't watched it? (This is a joke, just to be clear). Of course, the opening alone is great. I would rate the anime a 10 if it were just A Cruel Angel's Thesis. And then there's everything else.

I guess I'll just say on record that Neon Genesis Evangelion is good. It's not a masterpiece that people proclaim it to be. When I first started watching, it took me a little while to get warmed up to the world and atmosphere of this show, but as we got to the mid-point and farther, I was heavily invested. And then you get to the "Ending Which Must Be Named." For the sake of this review, I'm ignoring the ending altogether. It's bad. Just acknowledge it. The anime has an official ending. It's called "End of Evangelion," and I figure it's better to factor that into this review because even if the original ending is insanely bad, at least there is an actual ending movie to make up for that fact.

I don't think I have anything really inspiring to share besides what mostly everyone else has spewed about this anime. Shinji is a little bitch. The girls in this anime are great. The battle scenes are cool. It's a neat anime to watch, but it's also an insane psychological concoction that will not make sense on first view. or maybe the one hundredth. I have had to search up analytical essays about this anime to understand it better. This anime definitely requires full brain power and a sharp mind if you're really wanting to understand these characters.

Neon Genesis Evangelion, when you try not to focus on all the psychoanalytical components, is a pretty fun ride and definitely has an enjoyable feel to it. Do I know for certain everything that I watched? Not in the slightest, but I'm okay with it. You will feel dumb watching this, just as an FYI. I definitely recommend to viewers who haven't seen it before though for a unique viewing experience. Just remember to watch End of Evangelion immediately after for a proper ending.
