Sao. Sword art online. The most hated anime of this decade, and I’m going to review it. Sword art online is virtual reality MMO. Through the use of nerve gear, players will be fully immersed into a giant 3d fantasy world. Upon the launch of the game players become trapped in the game with no way to log out, oh did I mention if you die in the game you die in real life because the nerve gear has a high power microwave transmitter that can fry your brain yeah. This idea isn’t new by any means but it’s not used too often so it isn’tstale yet and I have to admit that it’s interesting.
The hero of this world is 14-year-old Kirito, computer nerd by heart and a beta tester for sword Art Online. I’m going to be frank I don’t like Kirito, he’s impulsive, overpowered, contradictive, and so plain that he’s impossible to relate to, these are just some of the many issues I have with Sword Art Online but ill touch on them later. Kirito is just too strong and unlikable that I started losing interest in the show after the 3rd episode, which the first three episodes are the best in the series by a wide margin.
We have Asuna, kirito’s main love interest and partner in Sao, well until she becomes a damsel in distress during the second half of the show. At first she is strong willed and powerful on her own merit. She’s a likable character although the show does not give her justice. It’s a shame that Asuna is practically written out of the show during the Alfhime online.
There’s a lot of things that just didn’t make sense to me in SAO I’m too lazy to list every single one so I made a quick list.
Why does a video game have pain? I can’t think of a single game where that would make any imagine feeling the pain of flying through a windshield after you crash your exotic car going 200 miles per hour in need for speed, or getting turned into swizz cheese by the cops in grand theft auto. Hell I wouldn’t even want pain in NBA 2k imagine getting elbowed in the chest by Shaq, god forbid I twist an ankle. So why the hell would someone want to feel pain in a fantasy MMO? I rather not know what it’s like to be impaled with swords and arrows.
Why did Kayaba turn SAO into a death trap in the first place? Oh yeah he forgot, if that isn’t a cop out I don’t know what is.
Why does Kirito seem surprised in AO when he can’t do things that people have told him are impossible? What do you mean I can’t fly through an invisible wall.
Your will power does not and should not affect performance in a video game.
Why does do women flirt with him in AO when your avatar appearance is completely randomized?
How and why does Yui exist?
How did the most anticipated game in years only have 10,000 players on launch?
Why the hell would you choose to go back to VR MMO’S after being trapped in one for 2 whole years?
There are some good things about Sao. The dub is pretty good by my standards and sword art online is pretty to look at. There aren’t many instances of unique cinematography but some fight scenes look pretty cool and I will admit that I enjoyed the first three episodes
Overall I think that sword art online has a great premise to it and it looks awesome it’s a show that can be enjoyable if you don’t pay attention however there are so many problems that kills the potential that sword art online had.
