Review of Detroit Metal City
Art: As indie as the bands featured in the series, lo-fi but in a dope way, love the band’s costumes & corpse paint (but what’s the character on Soichi/Krauser II’s head mean?) Sound: Brutal Characters: Soichi Negishi, known to Tokyo’s Independent music scene as Krauser II of DMC, juggles life in the mosh pit with his bandmates, violent manager, and hordes of devoted fans with the pursuit of love interest and former classmate Yuri, who finds DMC “scary”. Story: Since this is a character-driven show, the story revolves around Soichi’s double life. Misc: Given that the topic is DEATH Metal, the content of this show will NOT sitwell with everyone. From the lyrics involving dismemberment, murder and rape, to scenes involving bodily fluids, this IS a rather vulgar program. View at your own risk.
Overall: It’s like a Japanese version of Metalocalypse, if Nathan Explosion was a self conscious hipster underneath the Corpse Paint; A strange, wild, brutal experience.
