Review of Eden of The East the Movie II: Paradise Lost

I feel like I'm tearing the plotline away from this anime because it's not giving me anything to work with. Honestly, I'm reaching and reaching for something that tells me exactly what's going on or why things are happening or what the main character's motivations are, but I just can't get a hold of it. As a result, the story becomes hard to follow. As a viewer, I'm left to infer parts of the story, but if I guess incorrectly, then I'll end up super confused by the time I get to the final film in the franchise. Well, guess what happened? Beyond that, thismovie in particular, sort of just had lazy writing. "Oh, well this is a thing now because we say so, but we aren't gonna give you any evidence or foundation for it."

If this story had taken its time to develop and been more clear about the events that were occurring, then it would've been amazing. The message that was conveyed through this was very thought-provoking. To induce thoughts about politics and what you can do for you country through this premise of having ten billion yen to save Japan is mind-blowingly awesome.

Thankfully, through this movie, we do actually learn more about the main character's past, which I've said isn't necessary to make the good but would still be nice to have. It was nice to have, though it didn't really benefit the story either way, so I guess I'm just glad to know more about the main character regardless.

I don't know, this anime series didn't really spark a lot of extreme emotions in me, whether that be positive or negative. The concept of it did keep me interested though. Had it been thought out and explained more, it would've had me hook, line, and sinker. It's a shame, but I'm still glad I got to see this story through.
