Review of Black Butler

Honestly my biggest mistake was reading the manga and then watching the anime. The manga has a fantastic story line that keeps you on edge and the detail and quality of the art is something to be envied. However, in comparison to the manga, to be quite frank, the anime is lacking. For some reason, the company decided to go on a completely different track than the manga, so about 90% of the anime isn't even canon. What a horrible mistake that was. For first time viewers who know nothing of the Kuroshitsuji world, the story line is confusing at best, and you receive anexplanation after half of the anime is already over, and even then things are unclear. Honestly the addition of extra characters and story plot annoyed me, and I found it irrelevant and just plain stupid. The ending is also extremely unsatisfying and doesn't even really make any sense in hind sight...

That aside, Yana Toboso worked on this anime as well, and if you've seen and/or read the manga you'll notice her additions right away. The art is high quality and detailed, and all of Ciel's outfits are different! T

The show is a good balance of action and humor, and you'll instantly fall in love with multiple characters as you learn more about them.

I gave this anime an overall 9 despite the non canon plot. Although, perhaps I'm a bit biased after reading the manga...
