Review of The World God Only Knows
I'll try to keep this as spoiler-free as possible. This is my first review, but it's less a professional review and more like my thoughts about why this anime is worth a shot at watching. I'll try to keep it short as well. Anime needs to have memorable moments. After you've watched it, and when you turn back to reminisce it, what is it that stuck with you the most? If you ask yourself that question, this is how you'll realize if it was a good series or not. The World God Only Knows is a memorable anime with the good sense of the word, mainly because it manages to earn your empathy about its characters. I saw a piece of myself in every girl and their worries, and even in the protagonist. The fear of failing to meet everyone's expectations. The way you have to deal with the loss of a loved one and the inevitable changes it brings into your life. The fear of blundering where it counts, in the most important moment and missing your biggest chance. Being unable to offer your own opinion in fear of rejection, not being able to stand up for yourself properly and finding refuge in a different world. Even though in the long term it will make you miserable, you plow yourself into your hobby as a defense mechanism in order to avoid all the things you consider unpleasant.
Lots of series have tried this, but Kaminomi manages to really drive the message home by using likable characters and a fitting pacing in its mini arks. It uses humor correctly and knows when to be serious and make the right impact on the viewer. Though not all episodes are of equal quality, the series nails it where it counts, leaving a memorable impression, making you think and teaching you a lesson or two.
Objectively, and taking into account all factors, (like some useless and childish stand-off episodes, or some arks taking a bit long to come around) this series is probably a 7/10. However, taking into account all I said before, I give it a 8/10 rating because I think it's something you should definitely try to watch once and that has important things to say.
Peace~!
