For some, this anime will be boring, while for others it will be a masterpiece; there is no middle ground. With that said, let's begin the review: Quality and consistency of the animation: coming from Nadia, it is clear how the direction of the series is related to its tight budget, but this limitation creates shots and sequences designed to show what is important and necessary. There are moments where one can be amazed by the way they were planned within the storyboard, others where a static frame conveys intimate moments, and the use of fan service takes on importance both visually and narratively (we'll getto that). The colour palette is varied, with warm and cool tones mixing together, combined with lighting and shadows to create atmospheres of familiarity, unfamiliarity, reflection, existentialism, depression, and more. All these aspects create a style for the series that goes hand in hand with the narrative and its exploration of themes.

Direction and narrative: being a mecha, it seeks to explore human despair in an apocalyptic world and its status quo. Through the protagonist, a distinction is made, because “he doesn't want to get into the robot,” all of which is self-sabotage and not wanting to connect with other people. Shinji can be considered a crybaby, an escapist, and a coward. However, it is his poor understanding of how harmful isolation is. All that remains of the story is a plot/conspiracy of supernatural themes with certain religious features (although this is purely aesthetic). As for Misato, she is the subject of many fan service scenes, although there is a difference in how these scenes represent the way she “connects” and acts as a shield for her own weaknesses and fears. This point is the most noteworthy because it gives meaning and purpose to a resource such as fan service to convey a message without saying anything (as the series develops through her actions, we see that she must be “strong,” otherwise she will only disappoint herself). And so with the other characters, there is weight and depth in what they do and what they say.

Soundtrack: Shiro Sagisu's compositional skills are truly impressive, as is his ability to adapt classical and modern orchestral compositions. Memorable is the word that best describes the music in this series.

In conclusion, the “experience” curve increases, because everything you have heard, seen, or read about NGE may be true and extravagant. 9/10
