Review of Black Lagoon
Reviews if you don't have time. *SPOILER-FREE* If there was a show with such an iconic, badass, female protagonist, the name “Black Lagoon” comes up. It is a manga adaptation with powerhouse studio Madhouse animating it, and what a treat they gave to the already fans of the show that read the manga. As expected, the animation is great. The fights scenes are fluid and exciting, the movements and choreographies are well executed, and the weapons and guns are well designed and animated. The art-style is kind of unique and really helps with the dark and harsh scenes that surroundthe characters. It also has some moments where the good animation makes that more intense or memorable. Unfortunately, I still think that it could have been better animation or more complex sequences throughout, especially in regard to Revi.
The ‘plot’ is not that strong point of this show, and it is perfectly fine as it works in small arcs and adventures that tend to be different and interesting every time. There are some major themes that stick along the show but in general you should expect a new adventure every 4/5 episodes. And this leads me to some criticism. Some arcs or adventures are not that exciting or well done as others which makes them hard to watch and more likely to skip to better stories.
However, where this show shines is in its characters and world. They both are masterfully done and are still today responsible for iconic characters. In addition, the interactions between them are very enjoyable and sometimes funny to watch. The world and places where “Black Lagoon” takes place, ties the whole thing together as we are exposed to a harsh and dark, mafia dominated world where everyone trying to survive at all costs.
